Face Coverings
What strange times we find ourselves in. I keep thinking I will wake up to find it’s all been a bad dream.
As lockdown begins to ease I still find myself concerned about being in close proximity to people. I’ve noticed that joggers and cyclists puff and pant as they pass me when I’m out walking the dogs in the park. I even stopped going out for a while to avoid being in this situation. However dogs do need to be exercised and I find walking daily makes me feel better too.
So I’ve been busy making face coverings for family and friends and have had some requests to make them for others. It’s been busy in my sewing room!
Most of the fabrics I use are cotton or poly cotton. I found three layers make it difficult to breathe so have stuck with two. The coverings are machine washable and air dry overnight ready for the next day.
I recommend buyers purchase two so they have a clean one spare.
It’s been exciting buying new fabrics to use, I’ve tried to make them fun so they don’t scare people and look cool. I’ve used different fabric on each side so you know which side is the outer for that wear but the other side can also be worn out after washing.
Face coverings do not provide as much protection as surgical or N95 masks but research suggests that they can help in reducing the spread of germs and viruses.
There is also guidance for people with breathing difficulties such as asthma that says not to wear a mask or covering if it impairs your ability to breath. So please do some research on both.
If you would like to order please email me and I can send you some fabric options to choose from and discuss sizes.
I’ve shared some photos of some I have made below.
NB. Update: since the 20th of June my face coverings are three layers, cotton or poly cotton x 2 and a layer of non woven interface.
